Newhaven and Seaford

A sailing club new to the Sailability programme used a Foundation grant to improve access at their inland water sailing area

An RYA Foundation grant enabled Newhaven and Seaford Sailing club to install a hoist. The club had recently started a Sailability group but access was limited, and a hoist was a significant investment. Engineering drawings and calculations were needed for safety assurance, the hoist and associated slings had to be purchased along with the building materials for the base.

Now disabled sailors can get into the Hansa dinghies the group sail at their inland water, Piddinghoe. And volunteers find it easier to insert and remove the weighted dagger board in the Hansa.

Launching and recovery is easier, access is improved, sailors are in control, all thanks to the support of the RYA Foundation.

Jazz, a local disabled sailor and volunteer at the Sailability group, is definitely happy about the improvements. Find out what sailing means to Jazz by watching her video.
