CMC Adventure expands fleet

Outdoor education centre expands their fleet with support from the RYA Foundation.

We used our grant to help purchase 3 Fusion Sailboats to add to our fleet.  The majority of our sailing is introductory sessions for those who have never sailed before. After years of using Funboats for this, we are now able to offer sailing in Fusion Sailboats, which are equally simple and reasonably stable for beginners, but have greater room for progression. We have had a number of teenagers sail the Fusion Sailboats this summer and discover their natural skill and sailing ability.

We work with a diverse range of people including children, teenagers, those from very disadvantaged backgrounds, families and people with learning difficulties and physical disabilities. A teenage boy with ADHD, foetal alcohol syndrome and sensory processing difficulties had the opportunity to sail on his own in light winds. The stable forgiving nature of the Fusion Sailboats, and the large deep comfortable cockpit made it a very accessible boat for him.

Our long-term students, who are our Trainee Instructors, are also benefitting from having a more versatile boat added to the fleet. We already have one Trainee Instructor who has gained a huge amount of confidence from learning to sail in the Fusions.   Thank you for working with us to fulfil our vision of enabling people to develop their physical, mental and spiritual capabilities as individuals and members of society, helping them live life to the full.
